Central Africa has massive reserves of a wide range of minerals, most of which are untapped. From aluminium to zinc, Central Africa has enormous potential to develop into a mining powerhouse, and with the recovery in commodity prices as well as the mining supercycle period, we’re seeing more mining projects being developed.
Africa Mining IQ, the continent’s largest online mining information service, is currently monitoring:
With detailed, up-to-minute analysis, charting and directories of key contacts for each project, Africa Mining IQ is an essential tool for any mining product or service supplier looking to grow their business in mining.

The DRC continues to dwarf the mining activities of its neighbours in Central Africa, with almost half the mining projects in Central Africa located there. It has massive untapped mineral reserves, which are estimated to represent almost $30 trillion in value. Its mines contribute globally important quantities of copper, gold, tantalum and other minerals.
Mining in DRC peaked (in terms of number of active projects) in 2011, before low commodity prices and internal strife saw a decrease in mining activities. In 2017 though, we saw a reverse to this trend, with an increase in the number of projects compared to the previous year.
In Gabon, the number of mining projects has also demonstrated year-on-year growth since 2012, and Africa Mining IQ is currently tracking 11 projects in various stages of development.
Mining in the Central African Republic presents excellent investment opportunities for mining companies, with over 450 different types of minerals known to exist there, most of which are untapped. The Republic of Congo also has vast mineral reserves, among them iron ore reserves exceeding 10 billion tons, potassium reserves over 1 billion tons and phosphate reserves over 500 million tons.
Mining in Central Africa has seen a slight increase in feasible projects for the past 5 years, while we also see slight growth in the number of bankable and operational projects over the last few years.
Africa Mining IQ is currently tracking:
71 of these projects are greenfields projects, and we also track brownfields (expansion and refurbishments) and heavy industrial projects.
Africa Mining IQ is used by suppliers of products and services to mines to grow their business in Africa. From drilling companies, surveyors, engineers, testing labs, beneficiation plants, capital equipment, catering and mining services (soft services), logistics and process automation, Africa Mining IQ provides the business insights and intelligence these companies need to secure new business.
